How to Properly Face Rejection

Rejection is common in the world. You can experience rejection from work, love, or even friendship. Many people fail to handle rejections properly, thus leading to depression streaks and an unhappy state of living. This is understandable, as rejection does leave you feeling unwanted or not good enough. It basically means you can’t have something you’ve been yearning for. It means you won’t be able to enjoy something that you know would make you happy. This could leave a mark in your heart, but this isn’t something that you should allow to govern how you feel in general. Mishandling rejection could take you to a downward spiral, where you’d feel like life isn’t just for you and you’re better off just wasting away. Contrary to what you might be feeling upon rejection though, there are still opportunities that have yet to present themselves to you. It is therefore important to not let rejection get the better of you.

How to Properly Face Rejection

In order to properly manage rejection, one of the things you should do is to accept the fact that this could happen to anybody – to you and even to those who seem to be living such wonderful lives. Rejection isn’t something that only the poor or less privileged can feel. Even the richest, most famous people can feel rejection. It also isn’t something you can try to avoid. If you do, you wouldn’t be living much of a life.

Upon rejection, it is normal to feel bad. Allow yourself this. Let it sink in, and let the sadness kick in. Doing so means you’re slowly accepting the fact that you were rejected. However, you must make sure you don’t stay this way for too long. Keep in mind that acceptance is only a part of the process.

Once you’ve allowed yourself to feel sad over your recent rejection, moving on comes next. To do this, it is important for you to throw away any and all negative feelings that you have against the person who showed you rejection. Keep in mind that your preferences aren’t necessarily theirs and that what you think they want may not actually be what they do. It is important to respect the decision of whoever rejected you and to wholeheartedly wish them the best. Never take rejection personally. Rather, think of it as a failure to connect with their interests as much as you’d have hoped to.

Another step to take towards moving on is to stop clinging to false hopes that the rejection may be taken back and that whoever rejected you would change his mind. The longer you hold on to this idea, the longer it would take you to be able to move on. While it is indeed a possibility, this is something you will have to allow to happen on its own, without any expectations from your part whatsoever.

Finally, you should never let rejection keep you from trying. In fact, you shouldn’t be afraid to try again. Assess the situation carefully and objectively and look for possible reasons why you got rejected the first time and try to fix them if you can. Rejection often makes you feel afraid to try to go after other things that you want, in fear of getting rejected again. However, keep in mind that in order to move forward, you should never be afraid to try. Don’t let a few rejections stop you. Instead, learn whatever you can from them. Try to improve yourself based on what you think went wrong. Soon enough, you’ll surely get that one thing you once got rejected from.
