People with Dementia or those who have symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease also need to do different activities that engage both their mind and body. Below are a few spiritual activities they can do:

  1. Listening to music can help by helping them remember the memories and feelings they have through music. This type of spiritual activity is not only for those who have dementia but also those who don’t.
  2. Meditation and prayer is another spiritual activity they can do. With the help of prayer and meditation, they can become more calm and encouraged to live longer. This can also be done alone or with a group of several people.
  3. Another spiritual activity is by reading familiar passages together. The Bible has many passages that can also be associated with the current situations of those reading.
  4. Another activity could also be reciting favorite prayers or verses. This could help those with dementia remember certain prayers or verses that they have memorized when they were younger.
  5. One spiritual activity could also be observing different traditions and rituals in the community. An example of these traditions or rituals could also be sacred events like communions.
  6. There are also some holy celebrations and events of different faiths that those with dementia could take part in. If possible the person or persons with dementia could also become involved in celebrating these events.
  7. There are some religious objects that they could hold for tactile experience. This could become meaningful for them and become comforting if they are able to hold them. An example of these religious objects could also be the rosary. However, these people with dementia should also be supervised because there is a tendency of the rosary becoming a choking hazard because of the beads.

There may be short-term side effects if one decides to stop smoking such as reversible weight gain, but it has more positive health benefits and below are the details that you should know:

    A doctor will give prompt advices about quitting smoking for at least 10 minutes.
  3. Treatment through one on one counselling. More time is spent with counsellors.
  4. Behavioural cessation therapies – example of this is training in problem solving.
  5. Replacement of nicotine product
    It can be over-the-counter such as gum, lozenge, nicotine patch, etc. Prescription such as nicotine inhaler, nasal spray and a few others may also be done. There are also non-nicotine medications such as varenicline tartrate (Chantix) and bupropion SR (Zyban).
